Eating food from copper utensils is a custom in traditional India. Copper utensils are believed to bring good health to the owner along with prosperity. The beaten texture of the copper makes the piece look magnificent . The interior of the bowl has been layered with kalai. Kalai is a special silver metal coating done on the inside to enhance the usage of the bowl. Sour products can also be served in this bowl like curds or tamarinds/soups.The bowl is lacquered externally for easy use.

Copper sheets are cut to size and then beaten with a hammer to create the form and texture of the desired object. Copper is called 'Tamba' in Sanskrit and is regarded a sacred metal. It is known to have medicinal properties and keeps water pure. Every temple has objects made of Copper and every house traditionally had a Copper pot to store water.
